We have been offering shipping discounts and paying most of the shipping/freight on mail orders.  Visa and MasterCard are forcing us to have to implement small shipping charges because they have once again raised their fees in the disguise of a points system for customers.

Credit card "points" or "rewards" rip off.  
Do you realize that when you use your Visa or MasterCard credit card to accumulate "points" that in effect you ultimately pay for that and ultimately gain nothing but a larger bill for more interest to accumulate on?  Visa and MasterCard are now slapping the cost of points onto the merchants who ultimately have to raise their prices and cost you more. Ultimately you lose!  

This information does not apply to Discover Card payments.

Recently I received a notice that Visa and MasterCard would be raising their rates slightly and charging me, and ultimately you more.  They did not bother to tell me that in addition to the base rate increase that they would start applying a points/rewards fee to those cards that offer such programs.  Do you know what this means? It means that those "points" or "rewards" that you receive on your statement each month are a farse because the merchant and ultimately you are paying for them.  The merchant receives a surcharge for all Visa MasterCard charges made with cards that participate in rewards programs.  The merchant has to pay higher fees, which ultimately get passed along to you the consumer.  Thus, in effect you are not really getting anything, in fact it could cost you more in the long run for those "points/rewards".  

Since the merchant is paying more for these "points/rewards", the merchant must raise prices on their merchandise which means that the consumer is ultimately paying more.  Then if you do not pay your credit card balance in full each month you have a higher balance (due to the higher cost of merchandise caused by increases to process credit card points/rewards) and that means a larger amount to charge you interest on.  The end result is the consumer is paying more for their points than they are worth.

I can no longer offer bargain reduced shipping at $1 as I have because Visa and MasterCard feel it necessary to hog nearly 4% of each transaction now to give you some crappy "points/rewards".  You aren't gaining anything with these points systems because the cost are ultimately passed to the consumer.  I can no long offer $1 shipping as I was absorbing this cost along with credit card cost, but I can no longer absorb both.
