Amerigel
Barrier Lotion 8 oz. Premium
Prolonged exposure to excess moisture can damage your skin, eventually leading
to rashes, skin infections and even ulcerations. Amerigel® Barrier Lotion with
Oakin™ was formulated for nursing home use to protect patients from skin
breakdown due to incontinence, diaper rash, peristomal site drainage, skin folds
and areas where the skin may be vulnerable to friction/shear damage or excess
moisture. Known as “Body Armor for your skin,” the unique combination of
dimethicone, silicone and Oakin™ found exclusively in Amerigel® Barrier Lotion,
offers advanced skin protection utilizing the latest in skin care treatment. New
to the skin care market, the silicone in Amerigel® Barrier Lotion stays on the
surface of the skin and does not penetrate through the protective layers,
providing the best protection on the market today. Similar to a freshly waxed
car, the silicone shields the skin and prevents contact with excess moisture,
foreign airborne particles and other skin irritants. Dimethicone, on the other
hand, moisturizes and lubricates the skin without the greasy residue often found
in petroleum-based products. This lubricant minimizes skin tears in friction
prone areas and reduces inflammation caused by irritants such as cleansers,
disinfectants and latex particles. Amerigel® Barrier Lotion has won over nurses,
caregivers and patients with its’ effortless application and removal, while
eliminating the use of petroleum-based ingredients. Combined with Oakin, ™
Amerigel® Barrier Lotion reduces inflammation, combats and prevents infections,
making it a one-of-a-kind Barrier Lotion.

What is saline?
Saline is a water-based solution containing sodium chloride, an essential salt
required by the human body, that is hospital-grade in quality. This means that
Amerigel® Saline Wound Wash is free from contamination, bacteria and other
potentially harmful chemicals found in normal tap water.
Why not just use tap water?
Most health departments allow for certain amounts of bacteria, additives like
chlorine and fluoride, etc. that may slow or impair the normal healing process.
This can pose a problem in chronic, non-healing wounds or in diabetic patients
who are already slow to heal.
Can I just make my own saltwater?
Concentrations of salt vary without exact measurements, so many will get the
water too rich in salt or not salty enough.
Can't I just clean the area with soap and water?
Soaps typically leave a residue or film if not adequately rinsed off. Most
shower walls and doors accumulate soap scum, which is residue that builds up and
must be cleaned with household chemicals. This residue can contain various forms
of bacteria and fungus.
Why do we recommend using Saline?
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) issues clinical practice
guidelines for proper treatment recommendations. AHRQ recommends using saline to
cleanse the wound; therefore we recommend its use, as well.
